The British Crown Court in Cambridge issued a two-year prison sentence today (Thursday) against Peter Corrigan, the father of the killer of Saudi student Mohammed Al-Qasim, after he was convicted of helping a perpetrator evade justice following the crime that shook both Saudi and British communities last year.

The ruling came just hours after the court sentenced his son, Chaz Corrigan, to life in prison for the murder of Saudi student Mohammed Al-Qasim, with a minimum term of 22 and a half years before considering the possibility of parole.

Father’s conviction after admitting to the charge

Peter Corrigan had admitted in court to the charge of assisting his son after the crime, which led the prosecution to pursue legal action against him as a party that contributed to obstructing the course of justice.

The court found that the father’s actions warranted a criminal penalty, concluding the case with the son convicted of committing murder and the father for assisting him after the crime.

A crime that shook Cambridge

The case dates back to August 1, 2025, when Saudi student Mohammed Al-Qasim (20 years old) was fatally stabbed in the neck near the main train station in Cambridge while he was with friends outside a student residence.

The jury convicted Chaz Corrigan last March after rejecting his claims that the stabbing was in self-defense, relying on forensic evidence and surveillance camera footage that documented the details of the incident.

The Al-Qasim family remembers their son

In the wake of the sentences issued, Mohammed Al-Qasim’s family reiterated that their son was “a dutiful son, a loving brother, and the emotional pillar of the family,” while the educational institution where he studied expressed its sorrow over the loss of one of its students.
